The St. Seraphim Parish in Sea Cliff Honors the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women and Celebrates the Sisterhood’s Feast Day

On Sunday, April 26—the third Sunday of Holy Pascha, when the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women—the parish Sisterhood celebrated its annual feast day. This year, the festivities were a resounding success. Thanks to the efforts of Katherine Kallaur, the female members of the parish choir—under the direction of N.M. Miro—performed several hymns dedicated to the Myrrh-bearers. Following the Divine Liturgy that day, the parish rector conducted a brief Paschal moleben in the refectory, offering special commemoration for the Sisterhood led by E.M. Mikheev. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of her service to the church as Senior Sister, she was presented with an icon of the Mother of God "of Tenderness" (Umilenie), painted at the Kiev-Caves Lavra. Several sisters and assistants of the Sisterhood were singled out for special recognition in the Senior Sister’s words of gratitude. The celebration concluded with a joyous communal meal, magnificently prepared by the men of the parish in honor of the Sisterhood—and, indeed, the "better half" of the parishioners who attend St. Seraphim Church in Sea Cliff. It is worth noting here that, starting at 6:30 that very morning, George Selinsky and George Cherpelis had been roasting a whole lamb on a spit in honor of the holiday.
One can be certain that all who participated in this radiant celebration truly departed the St. Seraphim parish church and hall illumined by the grace of Pascha. |
